James Baldwin said that artists are here to disturb the peace.

During a time when Black Americans are considered a threat for merely existing — being arrested for sitting in a Starbucks, getting gunned down by police in their backyards while holding cellphones — disturbing the peace can sometimes seem like a death wish.

Art is often the only vehicle that allows the majority to realize the struggle for Black Americans. And even then, it is often simply commodified and consumed without much afterthought. Disturbing the Peace is intended to force the consumer to listen to the noise the artists are making through visual and literary pieces.
